Madawa Welfare Society Created Women Empowerment and Education from August, 2015 we simply did “Gives Back” campaigns to raise money for sewing and Education projects. But as things have progressed we felt the need to get more formal. So, formally, while Women Empowerment and Education is a stand-alone organization – it gets much of it’s support from Your Financial Support. Things like web-hosting, graphic art, photography, purse design, financial controls, office space, and management. It’s not a corporate foundation, or a family foundation, it’s a parallel organization. The best way to think about the relationship is that to Women Empowerment. We pick up the tab – its our treat! By doing the work of running Sew Powerful on the Community side of things – we are in essence donating the management of Women Empowerment, which enables the charity to have near zero overhead related to these types of expenses.

We are a Welfare Organization, so this fits within our core competency very well. Truth is, this doesn’t feel very much like charity to us, but of course, it is very charitable.
I realize there are probably two or three people that will read this entire post, but I felt like it was important for us to document our work and explain the program completely. Feel free to contact us via the contact form if you have questions, or leave them in the comment field below.

Madawa's Mission is to provide finical assistance to the Children of Martyred Families in order to help them and encourage Female to take part in social activities positive approach and healthy tendencies among the youth (male and Female). In the poorest communities women are frequently illiterate and don’t have access to training and education. They are also frequently the sole provider for their family. Everybody knows moms are often the hardest working people in the community, but economic opportunities are rare and working outside the home is next to impossible, even if they had a job opportunity. Sadly, those opportunities seldom ever come. So how do you help provide meaningful employment to a woman in this situation?
Entrepreneurial sewing & tailoring and Education is a perfect solution. The work can be done at home, when time permits, and the extra income can revolutionize a household budget. Additionally, sewing doesn’t require reading or writing – so literacy is not an issue. The simple provision of a sewing machine, and the training to use it, combined with sales and marketing training, truly can revolutionize a woman’s life. But it’s not just her life that is changed – it’s also the lives of her children and the entire community.
The problem is – the women never learn how to sew & sell within their own community. And aside from their own employment – the community isn’t ever impacted. The problem with this “charity export” model is that the aspiring seamstresses never identify the entrepreneurial options that will work within their local context. Additionally, the entire operation is dependent on the “charity exporter” finding ways to successfully sell the items. Usually they aren’t merchants with significant retail experience. And as we all know – retail is a brutal business and items quickly go into and out of vogue. In our view the “charity export” model is not the best way to empower women in an impoverished community.
